Montevideo

Montevideo is the capital of República Oriental del Uruguay. It is located in the south of the country, on the riverside of the Río de la Plata.

Is located in a geographic area considered the main route for the transportation of the Mercosur freight. It has a bay that turns into a natural harbour that represents one of the most important harbours in South America.

The vineyard surface is approximately more than 10.000 hc and there are 275 wine makers registered in the INAVI (Instituto Nacional de Vititvinicultira).The main varietal is the Tannat, but also there are other tipical varieties Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and the classics Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 70% of the wine production is centered in Canelones (60%) and Montevideo Rural (11%). The climate is is humid subtropical. The vineyard surface has good ventilation because of the fresh ocean breeze. The temperature reaches approximately 18º C, with sandy grounds.
